DC Universe Online will be the first MMO for the PS3 and will be the first online game based in the DC Universe too. The game will cost $59.99 on the PS3 and $49.99 for the PC. Both versions will come with one 30-day game membership. Memberships will cost $14.99 a month thereafter. PC players, however, will have the option of purchasing Sony Online Entertainment’s all-in-one Station Access subscription for $199. This will give those players a lifetime membership. It works out to be the best option if PC gamers plan on having an active DC Universe Online membership for 13 or more months. The all-in-one Station Access subscription also only makes sense if the game lasts 13 or more months, something that some MMOs unfortunately do not manage to do.

Based on what was shown at past events and more recent beta impressions, DC Universe Online seems a lot like your standard MMO. Players create their character, collect loot to upgrade their character, and go on various fetch quests or kill-X-number-of-Y-type adventures. Mission variety may change throughout the game however. And as one would hope with any MMO, Sony does plan to support the game for some time. The impressions of the game, however, are not meant as a knock against the game. Gamers that are  fans of “traditional” MMO-style gameplay and fans of the DC Universe could find a lot to like. The thought of a monthly subscription fee for a console game might be a little hard to swallow for some, but PC gamers have been paying monthly fees for MMOs for years. And the PS3 online service is free after all, so it is not like gamers need to pay twice to play.
