With Dark Souls 2, however, From Software is learning from past sins and vowing to do right by gamers. And while Dark Souls 2 is still a franchise best experienced with controller, the developer promises parity across all platforms.

Speaking with EDGE, Dark Souls 2 Producer Takeshi Miyazoe had plenty to say about his company’s next game, and was rather blunt about it too. For example, when asked whether we might see Dark Souls 2 on Wii U or Vita, Miyazoe simply laughed. In his mind, neither platform would work with the franchise. For the Wii U, Miyazoe believes the platform’s fan base doesn’t align with Dark Souls’ and for Vita he says that DS 2 requires a constant Internet connection, which Sony’s handheld can’t always guarantee.

PC gamers, on the other hand, have nothing to worry about as they are getting Dark Souls 2 in the best form possible.

With that being said, Miyazoe still envisions Dark Souls 2 as an experience that works best with the controller first and foremost. Yes, there will be support for mouse and keyboard, but that is not the recommended way to play, even on the PC.

Miyazoe also talked a little bit about Dark Souls 2 DLC and while he wouldn’t say so with absolute certainty, the producer suggests there likely won’t be DLC for the game. He says that the Dark Souls 2 that ships in March of 2014 will be the “full experience.”

The topic of DLC has become something of a hot button issue in recent years, but ultimately it comes down to the content itself and how it is justified. If it truly feels like something extra, outside of the core game, than players seem to be interested in forking over the $5-$15.

However, if that DLC comes across as an essential piece of the main product that was merely held back for added profit, that’s when things turn ugly. So, even if Dark Souls 2 does get some post-release DLC it’s nice to know the game on the disc will feel complete.
